Packing Guide: Safari Essentials
The Color Palette
Stick to neutrals (Khaki, Tan, Beige, Olive). Avoid bright whites (they get dusty) and dark blue or black (they attract tsetse flies).
Clothing
Lightweight, breathable long-sleeve shirts (sun & bug protection). One "modest" outfit: A long skirt or trousers and a shawl for village visits or religious sites. A warm fleece or light down jacket (early morning game drives are surprisingly cold!).
Footwear
Comfortable walking shoes or broken-in hiking boots; sandals for the lodge.
Tech
Type G power adapter (the British 3-pin style) and a high-capacity power bank.
Traveling with Kids
Kid-Friendly Kenya
We select lodges with fenced perimeters and swimming pools to keep the little ones engaged.
Activities
Junior Ranger programs, bead-making with Maasai warriors, and interactive visits to the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi.
Safety
We provide car seats upon request and ensure our "Nightlife Shuttles" are separate from family-focused evening activities.
The "Big Five" Journal
Every child on our trips receives a wildlife journal to track the animals they see.
Cultural Etiquette & Swahili 101
The Right Hand:
Always use your right hand when shaking hands, eating, or exchanging money.
Greetings Matter
Kenyans value politeness. Never jump straight into a question; always start with a greeting.
Tipping
While not mandatory, it is a gesture of "asante" (thanks). We provide a detailed tipping guide in your welcome packet.
Key Phrases:
- Jambo / Habari: Hello / How are you?
- Asante Sana: Thank you very much.
- Karibu: You’re welcome / Welcome.
- Pole Pole: Slowly, slowly (the true pace of safari life!).
